Instagram Username Search

Type in an Instagram username and get back whatever Instagram shows publicly for that account: profile photo, bio, and follower and following counts. It works from the exact username, the same one that makes up the account's Instagram URL, not a display name or a real name. This runs the same username lookup as the homepage, scoped to one platform.

Instagram Username Search

Looking for an account's old username rather than its current one? That's a different search, covered on its own Old Username Finder page instead of here.

Private accounts still show up with their username, photo and bio. What stays hidden is the posts, stories and full follower list behind them, since that's exactly what a private account is set up to protect. This tool can't and won't get around that.

Instagram Username Lookup

An Instagram username lookup, Instagram handle lookup, or Instagram ID lookup are really three ways of asking the same thing: what account sits behind this identifier. Instagram also assigns every account a numeric ID behind the scenes, separate from the username, which is mostly relevant if you're using a tool or a script that needs the number instead of the handle. If you already have the username, you don't need the ID for anything covered here.

Find Someone by Instagram Username

An Instagram username finder or Instagram account finder search works from the exact handle, not a name. If you only have a name to go on, Instagram's own in-app search is built for that (it matches names and keywords), while this tool is built for the opposite case: you already have the username and want to confirm what account it belongs to. The same split applies on Snapchat, covered in finding someone by Snapchat username.

An Instagram user ID finder does the reverse, working from a numeric ID instead of a username. This tool shows the ID on any account it finds, which is useful mainly for developers or anyone working with a tool that only accepts the ID format.

A matching username on its own isn't proof it's the account you're looking for. Usernames can be reused once an old account is deleted or renamed, and copycat accounts sometimes pick a deliberately similar handle. Treat a match as a strong lead, and confirm it against something else, a mutual contact, a linked account, a profile photo you recognize, before you rely on it. A quick reverse username search helps here too: if the same handle shows up on Snapchat or TikTok with the same photo, you can be far more confident it's one person.

An Instagram username is 1 to 30 characters, always lowercase letters, numbers, periods and underscores, nothing else. Instagram isn't case-sensitive, so typing it in capitals or lowercase makes no difference to a search. TikTok works the same way, so if you're checking the same handle on both, our TikTok username search treats it exactly like this one. What you see in bold on a profile is the display name, a separate field that does allow spaces, capitals and emoji, and isn't what this tool searches.

Once you've confirmed the account, the Instagram Username Checker is the next stop if you're checking availability for yourself rather than looking someone else up, and the Instagram Username Generator if that username's taken and you want ideas.
