Username Generator
Type a word, your name or a few keywords, choose a style, and get a list of username ideas in seconds. Pick a platform if you have one in mind and every suggestion is checked there as it's generated, so you can see which names are free before you get attached to one.
It's a free online username generator for social media, gaming and everything in between. There's nothing to sign up for, and you can generate as many times as you like.
How the Username Generator Works
A good username usually starts with something real about you. Your name, a nickname, a hobby, a favorite word or what your account is about all give the generator something to build on. It then tries the patterns that make usernames work: pairing your word with a second word, adding a short prefix or suffix, using a period or underscore where a platform allows it, or swapping in a word with a similar feel.
The platform picker matters more than it looks. Every site has its own rules. X only allows letters, numbers and underscores, with a 15-character maximum. Instagram and TikTok also accept periods. Roblox allows just one underscore, and Discord makes everything lowercase. When you choose a platform, the generator only suggests names that fit that platform's rules, and checks each one there. Leave it on Any and you'll get names made of letters, numbers and at most one underscore, which almost every site accepts.
When you've picked a platform, results show Available or Taken there. A few platforms, such as X, Reddit and Discord, don't let us check names from here, so for those you'll get names that fit the rules without a badge. Taken names stay in the list, faded, so you can see what's gone. On Any, copy a name you like into the username search to check it everywhere at once. A check doesn't reserve anything, so claim a name you like straight away.
Cool, Unique and Funny Username Ideas
The style filter is where you shape the mood. Here's what each style leans toward. The examples are there to show the pattern, not to copy, since the exact names may be taken.
Cool. If you came for a cool username generator, start here. Short, confident and a bit mysterious, or "tuff," as a lot of younger players put it. Two strong words that don't usually sit together work best: nightvolt, ashcircuit, frostlane. Short cool names are usually the first to go, so expect to regenerate a few times.
Unique and creative. This is the unique username generator mode, built to avoid the obvious. The generator mixes less common words and odd pairings so you end up with something nobody else is likely to have thought of: quillandquartz, velvetorbit, mossmachine.
Funny. Puns, wordplay and mild absurdity, ideally built on your name or interest. pastaguy_exe, notabotbob, sirsnacksalot.
Cute and aesthetic. Soft words, food, animals, nature and lowercase. peachpebble, moon.milk, tinyfern. The aesthetic username generator goes much deeper on this look.
Professional. Clear and searchable, for business accounts, freelancers and portfolios. Your name or brand plus what you do: lenadesigns, harborcoffeeco, codewithraj.
Gamer. Punchy and easy to shout over voice chat: clutchkoda, nullscope, respawnriley. For gaming platforms specifically, the gaming username generator has more options.
Username Generator With Your Name or Keywords
A username generator with name input is the most natural way to get a username that feels like yours. The catch is that plain first names were claimed years ago on every big platform, so the generator pairs your name with something else: an interest (mayaclimbs), a place (mayainmaine), initials (mj.writes), a shortened surname (mayakoh) or a playful twist (mayasaurus).
Using a username generator with keywords works the same way. Type two or three words about your account, like "vegan, baking, london" or "retro, gaming", and the generator combines and trims them into handles that tell people what you're about. This is the quickest route for a niche account or a small business, where the handle should explain itself.
Random Username Generator
Sometimes you don't want a username that says anything about you. Leave the box empty and choose Random, and the generator builds names from random word pairs, with or without numbers, so you get something fresh with no link to your name or interests.
Random usernames are useful in a few situations:
- Private and anonymous accounts. A forum, a review site, a second account or anywhere you'd rather not be recognized. Keep your real name, birth year, school, workplace and location out of these.
- Accounts you only need once. Sign-ups, trials and newsletters you don't plan to keep.
- Getting unstuck. A random batch often contains one word you like, which you can then type into the box and build on.
It's also worth knowing why security companies recommend random usernames for private accounts. If you use the same username everywhere, a leak on one site makes it easier for someone to find, and try to break into, your accounts elsewhere. Using a different random username for private accounts, stored in a password manager, cuts that link. For public profiles where people need to find you, consistency usually matters more, and a strong password with two-factor authentication does the protecting.
Username Generators for Every Platform
This page works for any site, but each big platform has its own rules and its own culture, so we've built dedicated generators that know them:
Gaming and streaming
To see whether a name is already used on Twitch, Pinterest or YouTube, or to find a Kik user another way, our username search for other platforms covers all four. If your platform isn't listed, such as GitHub, Telegram or eBay, use this page with the platform picker set to Any and keep the name to letters, numbers and an underscore. That combination is accepted almost everywhere.
What Makes a Good Username
A generator gives you options. These quick tests help you pick.
Say it out loud. If you'd have to spell it for someone, it's too complicated. Usernames get shared in conversation more than you'd expect.
Keep it short. Limits range from 15 characters on X to 30 or more on sites like Instagram and Discord, but shorter names are easier to remember, type and fit on screen. Under 15 is a good target.
Go easy on numbers. One number can rescue a name that's taken. A birth year or a long string of digits makes a name look random, gives away personal information, and is easy to forget.
Think long-term. A name that's funny at 14 can be awkward at 24. Some platforms make changes expensive or limited, too. Roblox charges Robux and TikTok only allows a change every 30 days.
Check it everywhere. If you're building a brand or a following, a name that's free on every platform is worth far more than a slightly better name that's free on only one. Run your favorite through the username search before you commit, or check one platform in depth with the Instagram username checker or the TikTok username checker.
